Maintaining Your Spa Filter

Filters are an incredibly important part of your hot tub as they are what keeps contaminants such as hair, oils, dirt, and residue out of your spa. Because your filters are constantly working to keep your water clear, they must be cared for to maintain peak efficiency. Without cleaning, the buildup in the filter can cause halted water flow which can strain your pump and even your spa pack.

Cleaning Your Filter

-Weekly

Your filter works hard to keep the grime out of your water, which means a lot of that residue ends up in the filter itself. To keep your hot tub running smoothly, it’s best to rinse your filter out every week. We recommend  using a filter brush, which works easily and effectively to clean each individual pleat of the filter. You can also use a garden hose for rinsing it out, but we would avoid the dishwasher as filters can be damaged by the high water pressure.

-Monthly

About once a month with average hot tub use (approximately 3 times a week), your filter will need a more thorough clean to break down any oils, scum or residue that will not come off with rinsing. This is done with  a chemical cleaner specifically designed to deeply clean your spa filters. After cleaning your filter according to the directions on your filter cleanser, ensure you let your filters dry before placing them back in the spa to help kill any remaining contaminants.

Replacing Your Filter

If you are diligent about caring for your hot tub filters, they should last about a year before they need to be replaced. After about a year, the filter will generally start to show wear and tear and begin to function less efficiently.
